  2. Cybereason 2020 Conference held at the Houghton Hotel, Johannesburg.

  3. Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States of America, Cybereason is a cyber technology focused company founded by Lior Div, Yossi Naar, and Yonatan Striem-Amit. Lior Div famously received the Medal of Honour for leading the elite Israeli military unit, 8200, for his purported role in putting together the infamous Stuxnet worm.

  4. Cybereason specialises in offering corporates with endpoint detection and response (EDR), anti-virus, next-gen anti-virus (NGAV) and various other bespoke cybersecurity products. The research arm of Cybereason, dubbed Nocturnus, was responsible for discovering the first “vaccination” to the NOTPETYA and BADRABBIT cyber threats.

  5. The conference consisted of various talks, including a session lead by Cybereason Chief Security Officer, Sam Curry, as well as a live technical demonstration and a panel discussion. The event was well attended and was definitely a good showcase of Cybereason’s products and business development.

  6. Our EndCoders in attendance were granted insight into the “cyber security trends” for 2020, a forecast which Curry commented on being the roadmap used by cyber criminals planning their next method of attack. The important points of discussion raised surrounded the differentiation between Nation State Attackers and Cyber Criminals and how this distinction was slowly blurring.

  7. Additionally, speakers and panelists discussed the threats posed by Chinese cyber attackers as well as various issues relating to zero-trust and cloud security. Geopolitics in cybersecurity was emphasised as a core driver of state-led cyber attacks, whilst the importance of private-public co-operation, and the instilling of a national cybersecurity culture was affirmed.

“Defenders have to be right 100% of the time whereas attackers only have to be right once” was definitely the quote of the day and this exemplifies the mentality of Cybereason.
