EndCoder @Daniel Batty at the eTTP and SEDA Virtual Innovation Forum

eTTP and SEDA hosted an ecommerce for entrepreneurs webinar as part of the Virtual Innovation Forum. Webinar host Shawn Theunissen (Entrepreneurship to the Point founder) and Daniel Batty explored the regulatory implications for e-commerce platforms. Daniel demonstrated how ecommerce platforms are regulated under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECTA)), the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and the Consumer Protection Act (CPA).

Daniel explained the South African regulatory framework through a practical example of buying products or selling off a popular local ecommerce platform. The audience raised topical questions on digital marketing and data protection and also, the complexities of internet jurisdiction regarding ecommerce.

Topics included understanding electronic signatures, consumer protection, contract theory and the policies required by ecommerce platforms to ensure compliance with their legal obligations in terms of ECTA.
